In May of 1978 Wyatt Johnson, P.E., L.S. founded Wyatt Johnson, P.E., L.S. Land Surveying. In the beginning, the company concentrated on the surveying business including boundary and mortgage surveys. The business has grown to include Civil Site design, subdivision design and more.
As the company grew they began designing residential and commercial subdivisions that required road, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water design, and coordination with utilities.
Under Wyatt's supervision, 40th Parallel was among the first surveying companies in Central Indiana to acquire GPS real time surveying equipment and robots.
As the company expanded, the name was changed to 40th Parallel Surveying. With the new name and additional personnel, 40th Parallel began to complete more ALTA/ACSM surveys and more Civil Site Design. The company has designed fast food restaurant sites, bank sites, shopping centers, transfer stations, office building sites, funeral home sites, car lot sites, manufacturing sites, and more. Sanitary sewer lift stations have been required for some of these projects. As local governments have become more involved we have learned to coordinate wetland delineation and perform erosion control plans.
We have worked on projects all over Indiana, from Tell City to North Vernon, and Portland to Vincennes. The majority of our projects are in Howard, Tipton, and Hamilton Counties.
With the current economic condition 40th Parallel Surveying has made cuts in fees for lot and boundary surveys and created ways of working to minimize our costs in order to still have a positive cash flow.
We have a much reduced staff but still perform a very diversified field of work.
